The cloud of uncertainty ( Formation of Government in Delhi ) is soon to be dispelled by a fresh mandate with Lt Governor Najeeb Jung likely to recommend dissolution of the Delhi assembly to hold fresh elections anytime now. This follows his meeting with the three major political parties – Congress, BJP, and AAP this evening. BJP declined to form a Government; while Congress and AAP favored immediate elections.
Each of the three parties has reasons to feel optimistic.
1. BJP’s prestige is at a high following victories in Maharashtra and Haryana last month. (a) PM’s vision of putting the ‘nation first’ has inspired and encouraged the people. (b) BJP has always been speaking of big goals and the onus is on the party to sustain the spirit of people to those goals. (c) A victory in Delhi can help the party make a ‘bold statement’ about the direction of the country. It will also present an opportunity to the PM to seize the next few months of his term for domestic achievements before looking to the view of the world.
2. (a) Congress has experienced another low point in the Maharashtra and Haryana elections last month. (b) With internal conflicts simmering further between those who want nothing to change in the leadership and those playing the game of a needed change, plans for fulfilling the aspirations of the people does not hold the fulcrum firmly. (c) The party’s softening stand is genuinely reflected in its declaration to support the three crucial bills in the coming winter session of the parliament and will raise its stature as the opposition party with a positive and constructive agenda.
3. AAP has been the trend setter for ‘good governance’ gifting the act to the nation ( having fought the state election on this key platform in Dec 2013 and exhibiting a remarkable performance ) , which was carried forward in meaningful manner by the party in power at the center now. (b) AAP’s 49 days’ rule in Delhi during the beginning of this year was a reflection of its ‘good intent’ without much practical acquaintance in matters of higher deeds and plagued by its own mistakes, it was generally felt. (c) AAP would have learned more about grit and determination from the PM now – in the seven months since the Delhi assembly remained suspended.
Which party will get the “voice” back if fresh elections are held now is what every one will be thinking now.
